Helping People in Need, But Having Fun, Too
I am very proud of what we do. People are in need, and we help. Our little company is able to make an observable difference in people's lives. However, that isn't all we do.
I was about to write my article with all sorts of sad comments -- talking about the tragic consequences of poor healthcare and the sad circumstances that force people to make choices based on hard financial necessity. People who are between a rock and a hard place, as it were.
But I reconsidered, and enough with the negativity!
Our clients have a wonderful time! And we have the photos to prove it! There is no need to focus on the sad and the tragic. The Costa Ricans have a saying: PURA VIDA. It basically means "Have a good day" but extends to enjoying life in general. Let's enjoy life.
The reason for a trip with us is pretty clear --medical or dental. And that is rightfully the focus. But around those appointments there is no reason to not enjoy yourself. In fact, it is extremely difficult to ignore the exotic location you'll find yourself in.
Our patients are saving so much money by doing this, they are usually at liberty to spend money on vacationing and tours. Our patients will (for instance) visit the hospital two days and spend three days on sightseeing expeditions. There are volcanoes, 200-foot waterfalls, coffee plantations, majestic forests, organic farms, wildlife refuges, riverboat trips, sunny world-renowned beaches. There is even a theme park, much like a Six Flags. For the less adventurous, there is shopping and museums and parks all convenient. Whatever your adventure-comfort-level, the verdant scenery, breathtaking views, and boundless fresh air will thrill your senses. The plentiful fresh fruit and beautiful local meals only enhance the experience.
There are tours that appeal to all sorts of interests. Bird-watching, coffee-lovers, nature-lovers, shoppers, beach bums, church-sightseeing, sustainable farming, architecture, or family fun. We have people who prefer to travel with a group or others who are seeking an immersive experience.
Dental surgery or a medical operation is quite a bummer -- that cannot be helped. In fact, it is entirely proper -- after all, that is the reason for the trip. Discomfort can dampen the mood. I have no interest in trying to tell you it can't happen, but what is amazing is that we put together FUN trips despite all these hurdles.
Another part of this that is amazing is how within reach it is! For $300-$600 dollars a person can get a round-trip ticket to Costa Rica, and from there decide how much money they want to spend on hotels and tours. The value is quite simply unbelievable.

Better Dental Health Through Better Dental Prices

Studies have repeatedly shown that bad teeth affect one's ability to get a good job...not to mention a significant other! Even without that extreme, we commonly hear how after dental work people smile more, laugh more, socialize with fewer worries, and simply have a better quality of life.
There seems no way out, but NC Medical Travel found out they could help by referring people to dentists in Costa Rica. They chose Costa Rica because the quality is high while the prices are low. It is also remarkably safe and modern, and also surprisingly convenient from the USA.
Overseas travel seems like an extreme solution, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Is Quality Medical and Dental Out-of-Reach Because of Prices?

Clemmons, North Carolina: January 11, 2016 – Sometimes, just getting the correct tests and exams done to FIND OUT if you need surgery are out of reach because of outrageous healthcare prices.
I can speak from my own experience. As a direct result of unreasonable healthcare prices I was forced to delay treatment of a kidney stone, which almost caused me permanent kidney damage.
Another man spent a year not knowing if he was going to suddenly die. His doctor had ordered a heart stress test, but the patient could not afford it.
Another patient thought she needed carpel tunnel release surgery, but discovered that after all the special visits and X-rays were put together it was cheaper to just schedule the surgery in Costa Rica. If her x-rays and specialist recommend some other treatment, she is still coming out better!
We had two surgery patients (a husband and wife) who were both in desperate need of some kind of medical attention, but they did not know what. They were spending outrageous sums of money going from specialist to specialist. They decided to heck with it, and to just go to Costa Rica.
Recently I had a prospective dental patient ask me if it was a good idea to just go to Costa Rica without knowing quite what they need. My response: that's a GREAT idea. We would not be talking to a person about their health if there wasn't a reason. I do not need to know the exact reason or any given treatment. In fact, we specifically organize patient trips to include a general doctor visit upon arrival to see if there is any unknown pressing matter.
Going to Costa Rica for dental or medical can be cheaper than exams and tests in the USA. It's that simple, and that hard-to-believe. Depending on the situation, we have seen how a patient finding out what treatment is needed in the USA (though expensive exams, specialist visits, and scans) can be more expensive than just going to Costa Rica with a general idea but no fixed agenda.
To heck with it, I'm going to Costa Rica.

This article disturbed us so much, and I'm sure it will you, too. But it is good information, and turning a blind eye to the broken healthcare in the United States helps no one, least of all yourself.
We are proud that our company, NC Medical Travel to Costa Rica, can provide a way out for our fellow Americans stuck in between a rock and a hard place..all while getting top notch medical care and a great vacation, to boot!
We are not a charity, although like a good charity we help average people have a better quality of life. But only if they are willing to try something a little bit out-of-the-ordinary.

Unibe Hospital of Costa Rica Attending Conference in Florida

Unibe Hospital in Costa Rica, as part of its ongoing effort to reach the international medical tourism market, is proud to be attending the 2014 Medical Travel and International Business Summit to be held in Miami Beach, Florida in May. I haven't been posting much lately, but I have been busy with many projects and making valuable business contacts...and setting up our new office!

Since my last posts, we have had many successful travellers save money...sometimes an unbelievable amount! We calculated that one particular gentleman saved over $13,000 on his costly procedures. Yes, he spent money too, but he didn't have to break the bank.
We have made agreements with the website MediBid.com,, operated out of the USA, and we invite you to use their resource. Basically, it applies the convenience of eBay to medical care, except in reverse. You say what you need, and doctors make offers. We at DentaRica (that's more convenient to say than MC Medical Travel) assist our partner doctors in making their bids to patients in the USA.
We expect people to have questions, and we even encourage it. The more we can show you, the more you'll have confidence in us. And that's the way we do business: with personal assistance at no extra charge...before, (especially important!) during, and after your trip.

Would you try medical tourism for 10 THOUSAND dollars?
I just updated the "Prices" link above to link to our newest price guide, which reflect a discount plan we have negotiated on behalf of our customers. Check it out and prepare to be in for a shock.
I realize a lot of people are extremely hesitant to try something like this.
But let me ask you.
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you get on a plane (by a reputable airline of your choice)
and fly 4 to 6 hours internationally?
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you go to the trouble of getting a passport?
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you stay at a fine hotel in a luxurious exotic setting?
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you get world-class, high-tech, healthcare by U.S. certified doctors and dentists?
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you get better recovery healthcare than in the U.S. (with a better nurse ratio and better healthcare system)
For 10 THOUSAND dollars, would you go on an unforgettable tour to, say, a waterfall garden, a volcano, or a rain forest?

We are not offering a ten thousand dollar bonus for people who'll try our service. We are simply saying that these are the probable savings for a person with a $12,000 medical bill in the U.S. (which is sadly very realistic, or even a low estimate).

Just a few cosmetic procedures (which are not usually covered by insurace) can quickly add up. And often, and tragically, "cosmetic" healthcare is actually a matter of actual health and well-being. But the insurance companies doen't care. That's why we are here to help.

We can help "last-minute travelers"
Sometimes people feel too busy for even just 4 days of being out-of-town, but dental needs can will force a person to make the time. Do you know anyone whose dental pain has just gotten to be too much, that they rush to make dentist appointments?
It's just a sad fact that things like this happen, but I am very proud that I can help. Sometimes, for people with fixed incomes, DentaRica is the only way out!
Delays is decisions to book (and booking a plane ticket is usually the dragging part) are very often related to finances, but not always. Last-minute travelers will often take their time to look at his or her options and consider, which as I have often said on my blog I respect and moreover encourage. We also make that easier on you with our personal knowledge.
Speaking of personal knowledge, we try to book our travelers in a hotel near the dentist or doctor's office. Sometimes, we can make it right across the street. A person from the U.S. inquiring in Costa Rica would have the language barrier on top of talking to slick sales people, and wind up with costly 45-minute taxi rides. We have had a customer who really wanted a downtown location near the casinos, despite the taxi ride times. We found that for him. If someone needs a handicapped-friendly hotel, we know where to go. If a person wants an adventurous hostel experience, we can find that too.
It's also very important a last-minute traveller has a passport already, because that is one thing we can do nothing about! Government-issued passports at regular price can require around 2 months sometimes! Wait too long, and expedited service fees are charged by the U.S. government.
Our "in and out" appointments are available for someone with responsibilities, whether those be children to care for a job to be back to. These can be done in as few as 2 days.
We also have our longer stays in Costa Rica available, for relaxed recovery, additional dental or medical options, tourism, and simply enjoying a vacation. Someone may want to take advantage of the low prices in Costa Rica to get, say, a whitening treatment ($25) or a skin cancer screening ($20) or an eye exam ($6). And then -and THEN- everyone knows how beautiful Costa Rica is! Look here
